SHORT TERM POST DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP OF IITM FOR WOMEN

IIT Madras offers Short Term Post Doctoral Fellowship for women with Ph.D with an objective of maintaining awareness and interest in high quality academic research in the engineering departments of Aerospace, Applied Mechanics, Biotechnology, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical, Engineering Design, Mechanical, Metallurgical & Materials and Ocean and in the departments of Chemistry, Humanities & Social Sciences, Management Studies, Mathematics and Physics.

The focus of the scheme is primarily to sustain and nurture the involvement of women with Ph.D who could not pursue their interest in research due to personal / professional reasons. In other words the scheme is not intended for career advancement of those for whom alternate avenues for research are open and available.

Eligibility: Candidates should have a Ph.D in the appropriate discipline. There is no age limit prescribed.

Duration : The duration of the fellowship will vary from 2 to 6 months, consisting of 2 to 3 visits of duration not less than two months. After the first visit, the Department at its discretion may extend the fellowship to a maximum total duration of six months.

Details of Support:
a) Rs.25000/( consolidated) per month.
b) Return Train Fare by II AC from place of residence in India to IIT Madras.
c) Suitable accommodation as per IIT norms will be offered if requested and if available.

Application form and other details can be downloaded from http://www.iitm.ac.in The print out / hard copy of the duly filledin application has to be sent to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), IIT Madras, Chennai 600 036 in an envelope superscribed as, “Short Term Post Doctoral Fellowship of IITM for Women”.

Applications are received throughout the year and the candidates will be intimated about the availability by the respective departments.

IIT Madras is a residential institute that occupies a 2.5 km² (620 acres) campus that was formerly part of the adjoining Guindy National Park. The institute has nearly 360 faculty, 6,000 students and 1,250 administrative and supporting staff. Growing ever since it obtained its charter from the Indian Parliament in 1961, Much of the spectacular campus is a protected forest, carved out of the Guindy National Park, and still remains home to chital (spotted deer), black buck, and other wildlife. A natural lake, deepened in 1988 & 2003, drains most of its rainwater.
