Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is a leading university offers higher education in the country through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. It is established through an Act of the Parliament of India in 1985. It aim to cater the educational needs of the students who is beyond the reach of education due to location, financial constraints and the working professionals, aiming for additional qualification to shape –up their professional career.
Today, IGNOU serves 30 lakhs students with a large network of about 43 Regional Centres (RCs), 6 Sub-Regional Centres and 1,400 Study Centres (SCs) all over the country. Apart from this, the Commonwealth of Learning recognized the IGNOU as a Centre of Excellence – for maintaining & executing the distance education learning programs effectively. It also offers the International Cell, responsible for the enrollment of foreign students.

Apart from In-house teaching, the university offers online coaching as per individual convenience of studying. The university also has various arrangement and setting for students who can take practical classes at selected study centres specially assignment related to Science, Computers, Nursing, Engineering and Technology.
Today, the university launches a series of 24 hour Educational Channels through 'Gyan Darshan'. The evaluation process of the students has been done through the term-end examinations tutor-marked and computer-marked assignments, practical assignments and project work. IGNOU has opened up a learner-centric approach wherein students can enjoy the flexibility of learning at their own pace.
