Presidency College, Kolkata
Presidency College formerly known as Hindu College is a uniform, state aided university which is located at Kolkata, capital of West Bengal, India. The college is one of the oldest colleges not only in Kolkata but all over India. The college was established with the vision to spread knowledge of English language amongst the Hindu people which weren’t very keen on learning it at the time of college establishment. In 1987, the college was started but only with few students and at the beginning, all the classes were taken in the rented house located at 304,Chitporeroad. The college was renamed to Presidency College as college became dependent on government for financing. The college has religion free administration and is open for all the communities from every religion. Currently the college is situated on the area of 14.5 acres at famous college street in Kolkata.
The college has some decent infrastructure. It owns 4 buildings which are named as Main Building, NetajiSubhash building, Derozio building and the laboratory block respectively.The college also provides some quality amenities to the students such as canteen, gymkhana, football & cricket ground, gymnasium etc.
The Presidency College offers various courses on both under graduate and post graduate levels in all three faculties. Being affiliated to the Kolkata University, the college offers many subjects to the students such as Geology, Sociology, Bengali, Hindi, Political Science, Physiology, Economics, English, Chemistry, Botany and many others.
Every year college conducts entrance exams for providing admission in various courses.Every student intending to take admission in this college has to satisfy certain criterion set by college. Students appearing for post graduate courses, get their application forms as per the eligibility criterion.As the Presidency College has tie up with many leading companies in India, students passing out from this college get placed at good posts with decent salaries.
