Vikram University Ujjain
Ujjain is recognized for its ancient times as well as its rich religious and cultural traditions. It is also an ancient seat for learning. As a result, after the independence, the galaxy of personalities advised upon Central Government for establishing the university at Ujjain. It was their suggestion to name this university after famous Indian ruler "Vikramaditya". When state of Madhyabharat arrived into existence, the Ujjain was chosen for the anticipated Vikram University. Vikram University was recognized in the Ujjain on 1 March 1957. Shri Govind Vallabh Pant, the Home Minister of India at that time, placed foundation stone of the Vikram University. The date was 23 October 1956 and the tithi was Kartika Krishnapaksha Chaturthi and Vikramabda 2013. That function was presided by Rajpramukh of Madhyabharat State named Late Jiwajirao Sindhia.
On 28 June 1985, M. P. University’s Act was revises as well as published in the M.P. Gazette. As per above Amendment, the University Jurisdiction was demarcated and redefined in accordance with Revenue districts of the Ujjain Division for instance, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Dewas, and Shajapur. Because of new jurisdiction, total affiliated colleges decreased as well as several new colleges were given affiliation.
The University emblem, the Lions and Rising Sun that together made the Crest of great Vikramaditya, symbolize unconquerable courage and rising light of knowledge. The Book Poised lying on petals of lotus indicates several branches of learning. Silhouette of temple of Mahakaleshwara represents sacred culture of prehistoric city of Ujjain. The University is selected for the precise evaluation by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) of UGC (University Grants Commission). The evaluation process involved scrutiny of responses given by University to the sophisticated questionnaire of the NAAC, as well as self-assessment made by University that was followed by the visit of examine committee set-up by NAAC.
