Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN)
Central University of Tamil Nadu is situated in the Tiruvarur District in Tamil Nadu. It is only central university of Tamil Nadu. It was recognized by the act of the parliament #25 with 2009-03-20. The academic courses provided are integrated programs for 10 + 2 level admission. The Master's programs like is common in numerous universities now having focus on the social sciences with humanities, basic as well as applied sciences, and computer sciences and mathematics. To begin with, History, Sociology, Tamil, English, and Economics are envisaged and with consolidation of the laboratory or equipment etc with science & technology courses can be introduced.
The Postgraduate Diploma programs having with focus on the employment enhancement courses, finishing school skills, community direction and the retail trade for the management courses. PhD and MPhil programs having areas, which takes account to the core faculty resources as well as taking benefit of the institutions' resources for instance IIT, MIDS, Kalpakkam, CSCS, CDS, Thiruvananthapuram having likelihood of sending scholars for the course work for other central universities for credit transfer basis.
The Tiruvarur District was carved out like separate district through shedding Valangaiman Taluka with Thanjavur District as well as Thiruvarur, Kudavasal, Nannilam, Mannargudi , Needamangalam, and Thirutturaippundi Talukas from the Nagappatinam District dated on 01.01.1997. There are 7 Talukas, 2 Revenue Divisions, 10 Community-Development Blocks, 7 Town Panchayats, and 3 Municipalities in the Thiruvarur District.
The administration of the Thanjavur or Tiruvarur district was given to the English completely under Treaty of year 1799. The ruler of the Thanjavur was permitted to keep hold of fort of the Thanjavur with extremely limited powers. British annexed when ruler died in the year 1841, without successor, its Thanjavur fort. The Thanjavur stayed under British rule in anticipation of 1947 when the India attained the freedom.
