In the year 2008, under the influence and recommendation of Knowledge Commission and initiative taken by state government Krishna University was established.  This university was established in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. The main aim of university is to cater the needs of students in local district and state. There are number of colleges that are currently affiliated to university. University is also being recognized by UGC.

Student applying for courses offered by university have to appear for KUCET common entrance exam undertaken by university administration. The very first chancellor of Krishna university was the Prof of Zoology and Aquaculture from Acharya Nagarjuna.

Established by the state government of Andhra Pradesh in the year 2008, Krishna University caters to the educational needs of the Machilipatnam Krishna district of the Andhra Pradesh State. The university’s foundation stone was laid down by Chief Minister Dr. Y Rajasekhar Reddy on 23-April-2008. Krishna University is named after one of India’s longest rivers, the Krishna River. The district that Krishna University caters to, i.e., the Krishna District, is one of Andhra Pradesh’s oldest British Administered district.  Krishna University provides a wide array of educational streams to choose from. The university has strong infrastructure. The university also has extracurricular activities room, guest houses, reading rooms, internet facility and a large number of laboratories. The various departments of the university include Telugu, Pharmacy, Management, Mass Communication and Journalism, Electronics, English, Computer Science, Chemistry and Bio Technology. Krishna University mainly provides courses at the post graduate level. The various courses provided by Krishna University include M.A. Telugu, M.A. English, MSc Bio Technology, M.C.A, MBA, M. Pharmacy, M.Sc. Electronics and Instrumentation, M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication, etc. The seats for various courses vary from thirty to forty five from college to college. The current Vice Chancellor is Prof. M.K. Durga Prasad who holds a PhD in Zoology. The current Krishna University registrar is Dr. Y. Kishore who holds a PhD in Physical Education. Currently Kandhra Jateeya Kalasala is the headquarters for Krishna University. Kandhra Jateeya Kalasala is Machilipatnam’s famous first grade college. Kandhra Jateeya Kalasala has allotted academic blocks for the Krishna University to function. Krishna University started functioning in these academic blocks from the year 2008. Another set of land in Tavisapudi has been identified and will be the future headquarters for Krishna University. This land is approximately two hundred acres in size and is near Manginapudi beach about eight kilometers from Machilipatnam.
