Jamia Millia Islamia

Jamia Millia Islamia is the institution initially established in Aligarh in the United Provinces India within 1920, it became Central University through act of Indian Parliament in the year 1988. In the Urdu language, the word ‘Jamia’ means ‘University’, as well as ‘Millia’ means ‘National’. The story of growth from the small institution in pre-independence of India to the central university is situated in New Delhi. It is providing incorporated education from the nursery to research within the specialized areas and it is the saga of conviction, dedication, and vision of the people that worked against all the odds as well as saw it is growing systematically. 

In the year 1962, the UGC (University Grants Commission) has declared Jamia as the ‘deemed to become University’. Thereafter, School of the Social Work was recognized in the year 1967. In the year 1983, it began Research Centre of Mass Communication and Centre for the Coaching with Career Planning. In the year 1985, it recognized the Faculty for Engineering and Technology as well as University Computer Centre. The Academic Staff College as well as Academy of the Third World Studies had followed in the year 1987-88.

The Special Act of Parliament completed the Jamia Millia Islamia completed as the central university in India within December 1988. In list of Faculties, for instance, Humanities & Languages, Education, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Technology and Engineering. The Faculty of Law was inserted in the year 1989. Many new courses with programs at the UG as well as PG levels had been added.

Besides the six faculties, Jamia has numerous centers of research and learning, like the ATWS (Academy of Third World Studies), MCRC (Mass Communication Research Centre) etc. Jamia is also walking ahead in field of IT (Information Technology). It provides different undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses.

Jamia Millia Islamia University is an Indian Central University exactly situated in South Delhi. The University was established in the year 1920 at Aligarh, India. Later the Jamia Millia Islamia University became the Central University by the Indian Parliament Act in 1988. Jamia Millia Islamia is the institution initially established in Aligarh in the United Provinces in India in the year 1920 became the Central University through the act of Indian Parliament in the year 1988. In the Urdu language, the word Jamia means ‘University’, and the Millia word means ‘National’. After the Independence, Jamia sustained to grow as the academic institution with the difference. Numerous foreign dignitaries had visited Jamia Millia Islamia in their visits of New Delhi. 

In the year 1962, the UGC (University Grants Commission) had declared Jamia as ‘deemed to be the University’. Soon after that, School of the Social Work was recognized in 1967. In the 1971, Jamia began Zakir Hussein Institute of Islamic Studies, for honoring Dr. Zakir Hussein, passed away in the 1969. The BE course of Civil Engineering was commenced in the 1978; in the 1981, faculties of Humanities as well as Languages, Social Science, Natural Sciences, and State Resource Centers were established. In the 1983, it began Mass Communication Research Centre as well as Centre for Coaching as well as Career Planning. In the 1985, it recognized Faculty of Engineering and Technology as well as University Computer Centre. The Academic Staff College as well as Academy of Third World Studies pursued in the 1987 and 1988 respectively.

Jamia Millia Islamia Admission 

Nationalist Muslims established Jamia Millia Islamia and it is located in South Delhi. In 1920, it was established in Aligarh and later in the year 1925, it was shifted to Karol Bagh, New Delhi. The university offers variety of courses at undergraduate, graduate and post graduate levels.  The name of the university is derived from Urdu language where Jamia means University and Millia means National. University has many centers of learning right from nursery schools to research centers and faculties. University has always successfully maintained the regular excellence in teaching and research. 

Before independence, two major governing parties came together and contributed towards the birth of Jamia Millia Islamia.  Nationalist teachers and students supported Gandhi’s call of protesting against educational institutions run by British. The foundation stone of Jamia Millia Islamia was laid by great freedom fighter Maulana Mehmud Hasan at Aligarh on 29 October 1920. On November 1920, Hakim Ajmal Khan appointed as the first chancellor of Jamia Millia. Mohamed Ali Jauhar became the first vice chancellor of the university.
  

Today, in India Jamia Millia Islamia comes among the most important nationalist institution. It is probably one and only university in the country who had to face so much political opposition. At the time of British regime, the degree award by Jamia was not considered valid. In December 1988, Jamia received the status of central university by a special act of the Parliament.

King of Saudi Arabia came to the country in the year 2006 only to visit this historical university and donated $30 million for renovating the university library. The cricket ground at the campus has hosted numerous Ranji trophy matches and women’s test matches. Apart from its seven faculties, Jamia Millia has number of learning and research centers like ATWS (Academy of Third World Studies), MCRC (Mass Communication Research Center) etc.
