Scottish church college was established in 1830 as a general assembly Institution in 1929, the college was renamed as Scottish church college. The college is located at Kolkata, west Bengal, India. It is one of the oldest Christian colleges in India. Rev. Alexander duff was the founder of the college. Scottish church college is well known for its beautiful campus and English Palladian architecture. The college is affiliated with west Bengal board of secondary education and university of Calcutta. The college is awarded with grade “A” from NAAC.  Scottish church college is owned and administered by church of north India.

The Scottish church college offers Bachelor’s degrees in arts, science and Business administration courses. In Arts field the college offers subjects like Bengali, political science, Philosophy, history, Sanskrit, and English. In science field the college offers following subjects: computer science, economics, microbiology, zoology, botany, mathematics, chemistry and physics. For admission, the college has 22 % seats reserved for the SC candidates, 6% seats for ST candidates and 3% seats for physically handicapped candidates and for Christian handicapped student. Students which have minimum fifty percent marks in aggregate and forty five percent marks in the subjects only can apply. 

The Scottish church college provides various facilities like Hostel, Library, Playground etc. College has total five hostels and the student residence which are namely as The Lady Jane Dundas hostel, duff hostel, wann hostel and Ogilvie hostel.Out of these, the Duff Hostels and lady Jane Dundas Hostel are only for Christian student. The college also provides Library facility which has more than 75,000 books, journals and periodicals on various subjects; the college library also has books bank from which student can borrow the required books. The college also has big playground located at canal east road. The Scottish church college provides several scholarships tostudent every year and also awardsthem with gifts if the academic performance is good.

The increase of European education within alliance with doctrine of the Christianity had been very important momentum to missionary enterprise within India in nineteenth century. Scottish Church College recognized in the year 1830 like General Assembly's institute and provided its current name in the year 1929 is the institution born of amongst such impetus.

Rev. Alexander Duff, the founder of the college, was first missionary of India from Church of Scotland. He wanted to set up the institution that connected western education with the Christian mission and eventual progress of people. This College is second oldest within North Calcutta and has created many outstanding people, leader among them are Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Swami Vivekananda. The College is given Grade A by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). The college enjoys the position of College having Potential for Excellence, the quality rating by UGC (University Grants Commission). The media survey rates the Scottish Church College as amongst top 50 colleges of India. 

This College is now possessed and administered by CNI (Church of North India) throughout diocese of Calcutta. It is associated with the University of Calcutta however, enjoys independent status for the Faculty of Post Graduate Studies. They provide Honors course for 15 subjects in under-graduate stream as well as post-graduate courses in two subjects. Department of Teacher’s Education of college organizes women students for B. Ed. (Bachelor of Education) degree.
