About the University
As per the policy of the Central Government, for establishment of a national Open University, The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), named after the Prime minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, was opened in the year 1985. The Head Quarter of IGNOU is located at New Delhi. This University was created with a view to provide education to any citizen of the world through distant learning method. It is the biggest University of the world with about 3 million students over the globe. Admission to the MSc course is available under the following terms and conditions.
Eligibility
A Graduate with major/honors in Mathematics with 50% marks in aggregate is eligible for the course. If the seats are remain vacant then graduates with mathematics as one of the three main subjects with equal weightage having at least 50% in aggregate and 55% in mathematics courses will be considered for admission.
Evaluation
The weightage of continuous component varies in the range of 20%-30% and the Term end component carries 70-80% weightage. The university carries out examination through its 700 (approx) examination centers spread throughout the world.
Assignments
The two year course is to be completed through four semesters. Learners will have to complete course worth equivalent to 64 credits. 1 credit is equal to 30 hours of studies.
Project Work
The project work of the Masters courses is divided on the subject to subject basis. Completion of the projects within stipulated time frame is a must for each individual. Project work in a discipline carries a portion of the total marks of the course in total.
Qualifying Criteria
It is mandatory to get 30% in the internal assessment and examinations. Further it is also required to get 30% in the external assessments. And finally, 40% on overall aggregate is a minimum requirement to complete the course successfully.
