Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University
In the year 1989 state of Maharashtra, realize the need of an Open University, so they established Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University through passing an Act in the legislature assembly. The university is named after Yashwantrao Chavan who was an eminent political leader and a creator of modern Maharashtra. UGC of India has permitted the university to offer degree, certificate and diploma in graduation, post graduation and doctorate level. University also takes care of standard of education, quality of teaching and hassle free examination. UGC approved and recognized all the degrees offered by the university. Thus, these programmes are equivalent to any other degree offered by any other university of the nation.
The program of the course is planned with similar academic programmes offered by other prominent universities of various states of the nation. University head office is located in the city of Nasik, Maharashtra. However, university has eight subsidiary branches in the cities like Mumbai, Nasik, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Amravati, Kolhapur, Nanded and a huge network of study centres. However, University jurisdiction is in the state of Maharashtra but now they operates beyond the state under an amendment which has empowered the university to extend its operation anywhere across worldwide.
Presently, university offers 226 varied academic courses consists of several hundred subjects. On an average, every year 2.50 lakh students are being enroll for various academic programmes. University has eight regional centers and over fifteen hundred multi-programme study center, which serves academic and support services to these students. The study centers are distributed all over the state of Maharashtra, covering an area of about 3-lakh sq. km. Thousands of Counsellors are fully engaged in providing academic inputs to the students via face-to-face or video conferencing. Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University is one of the biggest Open University of the world due to massive volume of distance learning system managed by the university.
