ADMISSION NOTICE
Applications are invited on three A4 size paper (two pages for the Application Proforma and one page for the Identification Card) according to format given below from intending candidates of Indian Nationality for Admission for 5½ yrs. Degree course (BHMS) in Homoeopathy (including one year Compulsory Rotatory Internship) at the National Institute of Homoeopathy, Kolkata, affiliated to The West Bengal University of Health Sciences for the academic year 2011-2012. (Form can be downloaded from Institute website).
ELIGIBILITY:
Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent examination with five subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and obtained 50% marks in aggregate (45% marks for the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe) are eligible to apply. Candidates should attain 17 years of age by 31st December, 2011. For the candidates who have appeared for Higher Secondary (10+2), candidature will be taken into consideration provided that the result of that examination is published before the admission and they have secured the required percentage of marks which has to be substantiated by production of documentary proof. Blind (including colour blind), deaf, and /or dumb candidates are not eligible to apply for the course.
SELECTION:
This academic year 93 (Ninety three) seats shall be available for admission to the BHMS Course. Out of this following seats are reserved for different categories of candidates.
(i) Fourteen (14) seats are for the candidates nominated from the following States/Union Territories : Jammu & Kashmir (1), Manipur (1), Meghalaya (1), Mizoram (2), Nagaland
(1), Sikkim (1), Tripura (2), Andaman & Nicobar Island (1), Dadra & Nagar Haveli (1), Daman and Diu(1), Lakshadweep (1), and Puducherry (1).
(ii) Six (06) seats are reserved for Foreign Nationals of which Five (05) seats are for candidates from Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical & Economic Co-operation (BIMSTEC) countries nominated by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Azad Bhavan, Indraprastha Estate, New Delhi and One (01) seat is reserved for Foreign National candidates under self-financing scheme nominated by the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
(iii)Ten (10) seats are reserved for candidates sponsored by Govt. of Sri Lanka through the Dept. of AYUSH, Govt. of India (If no candidates are sponsored by Govt. of Sri Lanka, these seats shall remain vacant ; no other candidate will be admitted against these seats)
(iv) Two (02) seats are reserved for candidates from Malaysia as per directive of Govt. of India.
(v) The remaining seats will be filled through All-India Admission Test of three hours duration. The pattern of questions will be of Multiple Choice 200 Questions- Physics (60 questions), Chemistry (60 questions) , Biology (60 questions) and General Knowledge (20 questions). There will be negative marking for wrong answers.
(vi)Reservation including to those belonging to Orthopedically Challenged (OC)/OBC category will be made as per extant reservation instructions. The candidates who are desirous of availing such reservation facilities under OBC quota are required to enclose attested copy of their OBC certificate issued by appropriate authority along with a declaration that she/he does not belong to creamy layer of the society (for the format see the Institute website).
Filled in application (in candidate’s own handwriting) is to be sent along with Bank Draft for Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five hundred only) in favour of Director, National Institute of Homoeopathy payable at Kolkata (IPO/Cheque/Cash/Money order will not be accepted). No Bank draft is required in case of SC/ST candidates but a copy of caste certificate attested by a Gazetted Officer should accompany the application. Candidates who claim to belong to one of the Scheduled Castes or the Scheduled Tribes should submit in support of his/her claim an attested/certified copy of a certificate along with the filled in form. Also enclose 04 (four)identical copies of recent (taken after 31st March, 2011 with a placard showing candidate’s name and date of photo/the photographs should be taken without spectacles and cap/hat) passport size ( 3.5cm x 4.5cm ) colour photographs. [02 (two) copies area to be pasted on the specified area on the application, which should be attested by a Gazetted Officer after pasting with part of signature on the photograph and part of signature on the application form, other 02 (two) unpasted should be signed on the reverse by candidate]. Applications accompanied by hazy, old or unidentifiable photocopies are liable to be rejected without assigning any reason. Candidates must put their full signature in all the places asked for at all the stages of admission process. Candidates need not send the photocopies of testimonials with application (except attested copy of caste certificate in case of SC/ST candidates claiming exemption from paying application fee) and OBC/Orthopaedically Handicapped claiming for reservation in admission, but the original caste certificate must be submitted for verification if provisionally selected.
1. The duly filled in application should reach to the office of the Director, National Institute of Homoeopathy, Block – GE, Sector –III, Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700 106 on or before the last date of submission of application i.e. 29th April, 2011.
2. Admit Card and Prospectus will be sent by post and list of candidates with their Roll numbers and Centre’s will also be available in the NIH Website: http://www.nih.nic.in
3. Date of All India Admission Test – 5th June, 2011 (Sunday).
4. Date of publication of the result of Admission Test -27th June, 2011.
5. Date of Counseling (and of Admission) - 4th & 5th July, 2011.
6. Result of the qualified candidates will be communicated by post and the merit list will also be available in the NIH website: http://www.nih.nic.in
7. List of eligible candidates/their Roll number/name of allotted centre for the All India Admission Test, Result of Admission Test, List of candidates eligible for Counseling /date of counseling and venue etc. will be available in the Institute’s website mentioned earlier. Though intimation will be sent by post, candidates are requested to check the website periodically as Institute will not be responsible for non-receipt / delay in receipt of communications sent by post.
Candidates should ascertain their own eligibility before applying. Appearance in the Admission Test or empanelment in the merit list is purely provisional subject to confirmation of fulfillment of their eligibility before actual admission (if selected). Money once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances. Incomplete /illegible application not accompanied by the necessary enclosures etc. will be summarily rejected. In the recent past, a few candidates were caught for impersonation in the Admission Test and legal action was initiated. So it is informed that this should act as a warning against fraudulent candidates in future.
8. The All India Admission Test will be held at seven Centers: Kolkata , New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Bhopal. Candidate should therefore give their choice of centre in the application. In case the number of candidates who have opted for a particular centre are less, then the centers at Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Bhopal will be cancelled and the candidates will be allotted the nearest centre. Accordingly candidate who opts for Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram and Bhopal has to mention his/her second choice of centre of examination from amongst Kolkata , New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Candidates must note that centre of examination once allotted to them shall not be changed and any request for such changes will not be entertained at any stage.

National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
It is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences and conducts the degree course in Homoeopathy ie Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery [B.H.M.S.] since 1987 and Post - Graduate course i.e. Doctor of Medicine in Homoeopathy (M.D.(Hom.) in three subjects viz Organon of Medicine, Repertory and Materia Medica since 1998-99.
The Institute has a 250-bed hospital, with 10 for surgery and 10 for maternity cases.
