Central University of Orissa
Central University of Orissa is established by Parliament under Central Universities Act, 2009 with No. 3C of the 2009. It is amongst the 15 novel Central Universities recognized by Government of India through UGC XI Plan. It is established to address concerns regarding “equity and access” with as per policy of Government of India for increasing access to excellence higher education through people in lesser educationally developed districts, having GER (Graduate Enrollment Ratio) for less than national average, 11%. The Koraput District of the Orissa comes within KBK region (means Koraput, Bolangir, Kalahandi) that is still considered as the underdeveloped region of State of Orissa .The three districts of State are identified for the ethnic culture, as majority of people here join SC and ST categories. As there is, no University or other national level education set-up in the region, this Central University is projected to become established here with the intention that it can widen access for quality higher education within the country.
The future site is situated in the village Chikapar as well as Chakarliput, which come under the Sunabeda NAC (which is an urban area). It is extremely close to the HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), at Sunabeda. A road created over obtained land of the Indian Navy for functions of the Naval Armament Depot connects the future site from the National Highway No. 43 at point of the Sunabeda Junction-1 (which is around 6 Km. away). The Damanjodi railway-station is on the distance of around 15 Kms. In addition, Koraput railway station is on the distance of about 25 Kms. Its land size is around 450.09 acres broaden over the village Chikapar as well as the adjoining Chakarliput.
