Kamala Nehru College for Women, Delhi
Kamala Nehru College was established back in July 1964. The college was formerly known as Government College for Women and was situated in Defense Colony. At the beginning, college used to offer courses only in one faculty i.e. Arts. Late on other streams were added for student’s convenience. Dr. D.K. Gorowara was the first principal of the college. The college started with only 16 members in staff and 209 students. In 1965, the college magazine called “Swati” started being publicized. The College was renamed in 1966 as “Modern College for Women” and in the next year its magazine too was renamed as “Apoorva”. Late in 1972, the college was shifted to a new building at hauz Khas (currently known as August Kranti Marg). As soon as the college was shifted to new building the college got a new name by management a “kamala Nehru College for Women”.
The current principal Dr. Minoti Chatterjee is bound to carry forward tradition of the Kamala Nehru College and to provide excellent academic and co-curricular excellence among various colleges under Delhi University. The college apart from excellent quality of educational programmes provides some quality amenities to the students. The college has excellent auditorium which was built after much painstaking efforts both by staff as well as students and after some fund raising campaigns. Now college offers quality education at both under graduate as well as post graduate level. For example, it offers Masters degree in Hindi, Political Science, History, English, Sanskrit and Philosophy.
