Recently in the Anna University of technology first ever convocation ceremony held on the campus last week. Governor Surjit Singh Barnala minister of higher education and K.Ponmudy were among the list of honorable chief guests of the ceremony. However, both the chief guest could not attend the convocation event for some personal reasons. Governor Surjit singh Barnala could not make to the meeting due to his ill health and education minister K.Ponmudy decided to skip the event rather decided to attend political events going in the state. As many as 393 students of engineering started their professional lives at the first convocation ceremony.
Chief Guest Dr. W. Selvamurthy, Chief controller of Defence Research and Development organization (DRDO) said on the occasion that the idea of national security could only be achieved through proper realization of health security, food security, environment security and energy security. This is one of the major reasons behind, which ministry of Defence is giving importance to research and development in areas like energy, environmental protection and food security. According to Dr. W. Selvamurthy over 1000 crores has been allocated to conduct research and development in universities and colleges. Recently, DRDO is conducting research activities at PSC College and Bharatiar University.
He also made a strong statement that arms and weapons cannot ensure stability and prosperity in a country like India, the Defence department has started many research activities for the advantage of society, he added. The minister urged the student community to perform to the maximum and requested them to contribute towards nation prosperity and growth. He applauded Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore for initiating such large number of exclusive courses such as nanotechnology. Awards and mementos presented by the vice chancellor of Anna University of Technology, Coimbatore. ISRO scientist is among the list who receives memento for accomplishing a course at the university.
