Bidhannagar College, Kolkata
Bidhannagar College (BNC) is a Government establishment and amongst West Bengal’s foremost academic centers. Established in the year 1984, this college is fairly new, as compared with a lot of others of its type. However, its growth is quite amazing, and it still rises towards making the potential actual. In form in that, it is today, the Bidhannagar College includes 15 departments with faculties like Humanities and Science together. The degrees are given by West Bengal State University.
The Under Graduate Honors Courses provided are assorted: Anthropology, Botany, Bengali, Chemistry, Education, Economics, History, English, Philosophy, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, Political Science, Zoology, and Statistics. The Post Graduate Courses provided presently are in only two subjects, Zoology and Microbiology.
Since its beginning in the June 25, 1984, the Bidhannagar College has, lived to its purpose in the education field in West Bengal. The changes are many and fairly remarkable. Change of the site is accompanied by the change in the infrastructure and affiliation.
The site is changed from BF-142, at Salt Lake, at Kolkata-700064 to the EB – 2, at Sector 1, at Salt Lake, at Kolkata 700064. The alteration of the site guaranteed the change in the infrastructure for better. Beginning with the 52 students, this College has presently in-take capability of 350 students every year; the overall strength is around one thousand. No wonder, it might be many more students in near future of higher education in the college because the six-storied occupied building gets all set for use, and dream of many Post Graduate courses becomes true.
Initially, degrees were awarded through the Calcutta University. This continued until 2007-08 admission. After that, the affiliation shifted like matter of policy for West Bengal State University.
