Dibrugarh University
Dibrugarh University is an Indian University situated in Assam. It was formed by a special act called as Dibrugarh University Act in 1965 by Assam Legislative Assembly. It is affiliating university with teaching facility and it also offers residential facilities to students. The university is situated at the distance of around 5 kilometers to the south from the Dibrugarh town and at the heart of Dibrugarh city. The Dibrugarh district in which the university is located is well known for vast mineral resources (which include coal, natural gas and oil), flora & fauna and tea plantations. The university is located at key place as area around the university has diverse tribes with their different customers, various traditions, their distinct dialects and culture which makes this area of university a very attractive and interesting place for the students of sociology, art, culture and anthropology. The university campus is very well connected to all parts of state by various roads, air transport, train facility, and also through water ways. The university has national highway no. 37 passing through it. The jurisdiction area of Dibrugarh covers large area i.e. seven districts of Assam, viz. Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dhemaji, Tinsukia and Lakhimpur. Currenlt 140 colleges are affiliated to the Dibrugarh University and offering various courses to many students. The university campus has occupied area of over 500 acres out of which 60 acres are under tea plantation. National Assessment and Accreditation Council has accredited the university with the ‘B’ grade. The degrees which are conferred by universities to the students are recognized by all the universities in India and vice versa. Recently, University has changed its academic system from ‘semester wise system’ to ‘choice based credit academic system’. Currently university offers many courses out of which some recently started are BCA, MCA, PGDCA and B.Sc. IT.
