In the year 1984, Mother Teresa Women’s University appeared under the Tamil Nadu act 15. The act was created to monitor the responsibility, offer consulting services and research work in the area of women studies. Currently Dr. Aruna Sivakami who is also a Ph.D is managing the position of vice chancellor of the university.
Kodaikanal is reachable via road from Palani and Batlagunda, the nearest railway is Kodai Road, and the nearest airport is Madurai. As Kodaikanal is a hill station, so throughout the year, the climate is pleasant and exquisite natural beauty attracts millions to tourist every year.
Mother Teresa Women’s University earns a respective place in higher education system in India and the only university totally dedicated for issues of women. Chief Minister Sri Thiru. M.G.Ramachandran of Tamil Nadu predicts the growth of the university in long run as an institute having international standard in teaching, swapping of staff facility, conducive for research in collaboration with other universities, guest lecture facility in India and abroad in the field of Women’s studies. As the name state courses offered by the university is only for woman. Courses offered in the university are M.Phil in the discipline of Women's Studies, Economics, Historical Studies, Computer Science, Education, Tamil, English, Family Life Management, and Sociology, MA in Guidance and Counseling, Women's Studies and MCA (Masters of Computer Application). University also offers diploma courses in the field of in Mass Communication, Computer Applications, Translation, Human Rights, and Herbal Medicine.
