Symbiosis International University
Symbiosis International University (SIU) is a multi-institutional, private co-educational university situated at Pune, Maharashtra, India. UGC and AICTE have approved the university to function independently as an autonomous body. Another education body of the country National Assessment and Accreditation Council has given ‘A’ grade to the university. Symbiosis International University is an integral part of Symbiosis society, which also manages the university. Dr. S.B. Mujumdar laid the foundation stone on Symbiosis society in the year 1971. The ministry of Human Resources Development provided autonomous status to Symbiosis International University in the year 2002. Since then Symbiosis has opened many institutes, which are affiliated under it.
The university is popular for its expanded student base. Symbiosis International University has 19 institutions spread over nine campus in the city like Bangalore, Nashik and Pune. All these institutes together form Symbiosis society and are affiliated under various educational bodies. Symbiosis society is a registered under Societies registration Act, 1860, and Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. Mrs. Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar is currently holding the position of Principal Director of Symbiosis Society.
SIU is running numerous courses and programmes imparted via different affiliated colleges and educational institutes and centers. SIU offers UG courses like BBA, BCA, BBA (IT) and many more. In the PG, it offers program likes MBA, LLB, MBA-IB, MBA-IT, MCA and masters in mass communication and journalism. In the year, 2002 Human Resources Development has given Symbiosis the status of “Deemed University” although in the year 2006 just after four years UGC through its notification withdrew the word Deemed and renamed the institute as Symbiosis International University. Today, SIU is an active member of AIU (Association of Indian University).
To take admission in undergraduate institutes of SIU it is mandatory to appear in SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test). Only after clearing the entrance exam successfully, candidates can become part of SIU.
