CUK (Central University of Kerala) is amongst 15 Central Universities recognized under the “The Central Universities Act, 2009 and Parliament Act No.25 2009. In the January 2009, it began functioning from the transfer campus in the Kasaragod, Vidyanagar, having two academic programs like MA in the English, Economics, and Comparative Literature. Vidyanagar campus addresses offices of Registrar, Vice Chancellor, Finance Officer with Controller of the Examinations, School of Comparative Literature & Languages, and School of the Global Studies, Computer Centre, Central Library, Council Meeting Hall, Language Lab, and Guest House etc. In the year 2010, Central University of Kerala Science schools began functioning from Riverside campus in Kanhangad, around 20 km south from Vidyanagar. It houses office of Dean of the Biological Sciences, computer centre, library extension centre, and schools of the Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences. 

Central University of Kerala provides updated interdisciplinary syllabi for 16 postgraduate academic courses through Choice-Based Credit Semester System. It is having state-of- -art laboratory and library facilities. Internet as well as digital resources are available freely for the students. Separate boarding house facilities are accessible for boys and girls. Three different kinds of scholarships are accessible to all the deserving students of Central University of Kerala: Merit, Boarding, and Merit-cum-means.

Central University of Kerala is located in Kasaragod, which is at northwestern coastal district in Kerala.
