One of the oldest privately owned colleges in India, Fergusson College was founded by the Deccan education Society in the year 1885. The college was named after Sir James Fergusson, the governor of Mumbai. Now days Fergusson College is constantly ranked amongst the top ten colleges in India and is one of India’s most prestigious colleges. Fergusson College since its inception has been closely related with Indian Politics. Fergusson College is well known for producing two of India’s fines Prime Ministers and had also played an active part in the creating minds for the Indian Socialist Movement, Hindu Nationalism and the Indian National Congress.  The Fergusson College is located in Pune, Maharashtra. 

The Fergusson College has a sixty five acre campus which provides enough room for residential facilities, cultural facilities and athletic facilities. Fergusson College on an average caters to nearly 600 students at its Pune Campus. The Fergusson College campus has a number of buildings for various departments. The campus also has an amphitheatre and a library. The Bai Jerbai Wadia Library houses a collection of over three mission books and can easily accommodate more than four hundred students in its reading hall. Apart from this the campus also has botanical gardens, gymkhana, grounds and residences. Fergusson College is affiliated with the Pune University. 

Fergusson College has two distinct wings, viz., the senior wing and the Junior Wing. Sixteen types of Masters Degrees and twenty nine types of bachelor’s degrees are offered by the senior wing of Fergusson College. Science and Arts streams are offered for the HSC examination (Standard 12 examination) at the junior wing of Fergusson College. Vishwanath Pratap Singh (former Prime Minister of India), Suresh Kalmadi, Sonali Kulkarni, Ram Ganesh Gadkari, Pralhad Kakkar, P.L. Deshpande are few amongst the vast list of Fergusson College’s alumni.
