University of Mumbai is amongst the oldest and leading Universities of India. It was recognized in the year 1857 resulting upon the "Wood's Education Dispatch", as well as it is amongst first three Universities of India. As a follow-up to change in name of city from Bombay to the Mumbai, name of University is changed from the "University of Bombay” toward "University of Mumbai ". The notification was issued by Government of Maharashtra as well as published in Government Gazette on 4 September 1996.
