Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

Banaras Hindu University or BHU as commonly preferred is a public university which is situated in Varanasi, India. With more than 12000 students as residing students, the Banaras Hindu University holds the Asia’s largest residential University title. This title makes the college more prestigious among students. This Central University was established in the year 1916 under by he Parliamentary legislation 'B.H.U. Act 1915' and it was founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya

The main campus of the Banaras Hindu University holds the land area of 1350 acres and the University was built on land area which was donated by the Kashi Naresh, the patrimonial
ruler of Banaras. The Rajiv Gandhi South Campus another campus of this University with 2,760-acre of land area and it is located at Barkatcha near the Mirzapur city.

Being the most prestigious University, Banaras Hindu University holds nearly 140 education departments and about 55 hostels for girls and boys. With excellent accommodation facilities, the University holds about 15000 total registrations in a year which includes students not merely from India but from all over the world. The affiliated colleges of the University have all range of departments from engineering to science to arts to linguistics to law to medicine to journalism & mass communication and so on. The Faculty of Management Studies is rated as best in India, which shows the University’s quality and standard in teaching and research.

Another important key feature of this University is the Department of French studies. Through this department, the University offers Undergraduate degree and diploma courses on French language which is not very common in India. After Delhi University, the Bannaras Hindu University is rated as the second best university in the field of research. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Indian poet and C. N. R. Rao, chemist are some of the notable alumnis of this University.
