Bangalore University

Bangalore University is a one of the oldest universities located in Bangalore, India. This public university was established in the year 1886 as the Central College, by the British Government. Later, it was named as the Bangalore University by the UGC on July 10, 1964. Being a part Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the University nears the status of "Potential for Excellence" which is given only for the top 10 universities around India and this excellence certificate is given under the Guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Various departments of the University are also named as Centres of Excellence by UGC.

The University of Bangalore now functions from two campuses -the Jnana Bharathi Campus and the Central College Campus. The Central College and the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) were colligated into the Bangalore University. With the announcement of the Karnataka State Universities Regulation of 1975, which aimed on the uniformity to all universities around state, the University of Bangalore lost its federal quality and turned into a state-affiliated university. And the University moved to the Jnana Bharathi Campus in 1973 which is located on 1,100 acres of land area. The Bangalore University gave rise to several universities such as Visvesvaraya Technological University, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

The Bangalore University has an excellent Library with two wings, one in the Central College Campus which was established in 1858, and the other is at Jnana Bharathi Campus in 1966. With about 35,000 books, the library of Bangalore University is a good source for all subjects. This Library is housed in a Star Moduled building which has various wings for reference section, reading hall and stack rooms, administrative divisions, computer centre and periodical sections. The collection of books has attained 3,500,000 books now and it also grows at a rate of more than 5,000 titles yearly.

Bangalore University

Bangalore University (BU) is the public university situated in Bangalore, in Karnataka State, in India. The university is amongst the oldest of India, come in to existence in 1886. The university is part of AIU (Association of Indian Universities) and nears status of the "Potential for Excellence", reserved for top 10 universities of India under Guidelines of UGC (University Grants Commission). University is occupied in the research via MoU with the foreign as well as local universities, institutions, and organizations. Numbers of departments are recognized by the UGC as the Center of Excellence.

The University was inaugurated as Central College, in Bangalore in the year 1886, by British Government to give University degrees. It was renamed like Bangalore University from the Central College by UGC on 10 July 1964 by government under State of Mysore for consolidating institutions of the higher education in city of Bangalore. The university now works from two campuses - Central College Campus as well as Jnana Bharathi Campus.

Central College, Bangalore, which was established in the 1886 and UVCE (University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering), established in the 1912, these two main institutions of Bangalore were included into Bangalore University. With transmission of Karnataka State Universities Ordinance for 1975, aimed at starting uniformity to all the universities in state, university lost its central character and became the state-affiliated university. In the 1973, this University moved to Jnana Bharathi Campus situated in 1,100 acres land.

Bangalore University gave origin to the universities like Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Visvesvaraya Technological University, and National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences.

Bangalore University

Located in the software capital of India, Bangalore University or BU is one of the oldest universities in India. It was established in 1886. The university is one of the members of the Association of India Universities and is very close getting the status of “potential for excellence” which is given only to top 10 universities in India, under the guidelines of University Grant Commission. The university is engaged with various local as well as foreign universities, institutions and organizations for research as well as courses. University Grant Commission has provided recognition to the several departments of this university.

History:
This university was established by British Government in 1886 in Bangalore to award university degrees in that region. Formerly it was known as Central College but in 1964, UGC renamed it as Bangalore University. Now, the university has two campuses, one is Janana Bharti Campus and other one is Central College Campus. Later the Bangalore University gave rise to various other universities like Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences and Visvesvaraya Technological Institute etc. Bangalore University’s Institute of Aerospace Medicine does the enormous work designated by ISRO of training the astronauts for Indian Space Program. 

Bangalore University has created many scientist and some of them have won some really prestigious awards. Sir C. V. Raman and Leonid Hurwitz have won even Nobel Prize and they were the lecturers at Bangalore University, what other thing can be more prestigious than this for any college?

Bangalore University (BU) is one of the oldest universities of the country and is located in the city of Bangalore, Karnataka, India. In the year 1886, it was established with the motive to provide higher education to the people living in the surroundings. Bangalore University is a member of AIU (Association of Indian Universities) and close to status of “Potential for Excellence” which is given to top 10 universities of the nation as per the norms of UGC (University Grants Commission).

Several departments of the university have been given the status of “Centers of Excellence”. University focuses on research work with various local and foreign universities collaboration. Today university operates from two campuses namely the Jnana Bharathi Campus and the Central College Campus.  Bangalore University is the one who gave birth to universities like the National Institute Mental Health and Neuroscience, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and Visvesvarya Technological University.

With many emerging university in the state of Karnataka, Bangalore University has lost its federal character and just became a state-affiliated university. In the year 1973, university shifted to Jnana Bharathi Campus, which has land of about 1100 acres. Bangalore University Admission
At the inception, Bangalore University was established as Central College, Bangalore in the year 1886 under the regime of British to award university degree. However, in the year 1964 Central College, UGC India renamed Bangalore as Bangalore University. The state government was keen to establish a consolidate organization of higher education in the town of Bangalore. Today, university functions from two places – Jnana Bharathi Campus and Central College campus.

Central college, Bangalore and University Visvesvaraya College of engineering were merged into this university. With the transmission of Karnataka State universities from the year 1975, university has lost its central character and became a state affiliated university. In the year, 1973 university premises shifted to Jnana Bharathi Campus, which has total land area of 1100 acres.

Bangalore University is the one behind the origin of universities like National Institute Mental Health and Neuroscience, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science and Visvesvaraya Technological University. University built an IAM (Institute of Aerospace Medicine) for astronaut training for Indian Space program.


Compare to any other university, Bangalore University is producing largest number of PhDs in the nation and it has great goodwill among foreign universities. As a result, many overseas students come here to get higher education. In the year, 2001 NAAC (Assessment and Accreditation Council) has awarded five-star status to the university. Later, NAAC under the new grading system has given A Grade to the university. Nobel Prize winner Sir C.V. Raman in the year 1930 was associated with the university and he gave credit to the University for Achievement and recognition he received.  

Library of the university is located in City campus and in Jnana Bharathi Campus. Jnana Bharathi Campus has a great collection of books, journals, periodicals and magazines. It has a volume of over 3.25 lakhs.  The floor area of library is about 6500 sq. mts and it receives 50 journals on exchange basis.
