University of Mumbai was established in 1857 and it is one of the oldest institutions in India.  Holding more than 150 years of history, this University provides several courses at undergraduate, post-graduate and also research level. The University of Mumbai is also one of the most opted learning destinations in India, so to manage the mounting admission demand the university spread in two campuses which covers 230 acres and 13 acres of land area. The University comprises 354 affiliated colleges, 2 postgraduate centers, and 36 departments with well trained faculties. The University of Mumbai has excellent connects with various industry houses and provides different professional programs depending on the industrial requirements.

The University has 8 faculties and 1 school. This university offers magnificent Central Library, named as Jawaharlal Nehru Library and it holds nearly 1 million books including documents and Thesis, Encyclopedias, Scientific Journals, and also more than 30,000 microfilms and nearly 1200 rare manuscripts, census records and MF reports.

The University of Mumbai has number of proud alumni across world; some of them include Mahatma Gandhi, B. R. Ambedkar, Jagdish Bhagwati, R.A. Mashelkar, Aishwarya Rai and Lal Krishna Advani. The range of subjects such as humanities, sciences, commerce, engineering, law, medicine, etc are taught here. Several job oriented certificates and diploma courses are also offered here. One of the key features of this university is that it takes students from all Indian states and union territories and also from foreign nationals and importantly the departments of this university are engaged in research. The University of Mumbai has excellent faculties, and every year nearly 20 teachers are sent to abroad for academic purposes. The teachers of the university have won about 18 National and International awards in last 5 years.
