The Annamalai University is a residential and unitary university which was founded by the Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar of Chettinad, in the year 1929. The University is one of the preferred Universities among young students as it has nearly 49 Departments of Study and more than 3240 faculty and staff members. This Public University is exactly situated in Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram, in Tamil Nadu, India. The university provides academic courses of higher education in both arts and sciences. With about 1000 acres, the Annamalai University campus holds colleges, library, hostels, and playgrounds.
Apart from colleges and academic courses, the University also provides more than 380 courses under Distance Education System. The Distance Education system of the Annamalai University is very famous as it accepts students from all over India and also from other foreign countries. This University is the first choice for all students who unable to attend the regular classes or who want to study while working. Even the Annamalai University has the record for more number of students studied through distance education than regular education mode.
In year 2005, Annamalai University opened its small campus in Toronto, Canada to presume Indian fine arts to the students whoever interested. This University also holds many centres in and around the world; some of the overseas centres of Annamalai University includes the Al Mihad Institute in Dubai, the Al Noor Education Centre located in Muscat, Oman and the Al Hilal Education Centre located in United Arab Emirates.
The Library of the Annamalai University is another key resource of information for the students and the staff members from all departments and it is named after the prominent Scholar solon and former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sir C.P.Ramaswami Aiyer. The Library is well furnished with excellent study area, different areas for different department books, journals, internet connection and CD network station.
