Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University is a State University which has focus on education and research. This premier insitution was established in the year 1906 in Bengal then after independence, it was converted into university by the Jadavpur University Act in the year 1955. The Jadavpur University holds about two campuses, one is the main campus located at Jadavpur and the other is at salt lake. The jadavpur campus is the main campus with many important and famous institutes like the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, and the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute.

The main campus in Jadavpur is most preferred campus as it holds almost all the departments of the three faculties, such as Arts, Science and Engineering. And it also holds Jadavpur University Central Library which is a excellent source for books, journals for all department students and the Blue Earth Workshop is another additional institute which present in the Jadavpur campus. In Salt Lake campus five engineering departments are operated and Cricket Association of Bengal is also present in this campus. 

With UGC’s "Potential for Excellence", the Jadavpur University also holds the ‘five star University’ rank from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). With excellent faculty, the University of Jadavpur has opened the Manick Sorcar Laser Animation Laboratory in 2011 in which the first laser animation course was introduced. this special course is for students who have taken illumination engineering degree.

Another important and very special feature of this university is its emblem; with three-flamed lamp surrounded by lotus petals it represents the grandness of knowledge for a human being. Being one of the famous Universities, the competition for admission is very high, especially the competition for engineering degree is in the peak, as it has National Instruments and specialized labs for various engineering departments like Electronics and Tele-communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science.
