Stella Maris College Chennai
The Stella Maris College was established on August 15, 1947. Back then it had just thirty two students. It was later in 1951 that Stella Maris College received official recognition. The Stella Maris College is located at Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is a catholic institution for higher education. The Stella Maris College is a women’s college and has been well known for serving needy, socially underprivileged and economically weak students. Though the college atmosphere is Christian and the college is dominated by Catholics, admission is granted to all students applying irrespective of their caste, creed or religion. Stella Maris College is affiliated with the University of Madras but is autonomous in nature. Stella Maris College offers ten post graduate programs and thirteen undergraduate programs. Post graduate diploma courses and research programs are offered at Stella Maris College. Observing Stella Maris College’s excellence in teaching, NAAC (National Assessment Accreditation Council) granted 5 star statuses to the college recently. In all the Stella Maris College has twenty departments, viz., Zoology, Sociology, Social work, Religion and value education, public relations, psychology, plant biology and plant biotechnology, physics, mathematics, languages, international studies, history of fine arts, drawings and paintings, history, English, economics, computer science, commerce, chemistry, biotechnology and bioinformatics. Stella Maris College provides the best infrastructure to its students to promote a learning environment. The college has a library and book bank which houses a wide collection of books, magazines and digital media. The library at is fully automated and open to students nine hours a day. Two hostel facilities are also provided for the students by the college. Apart from the normal infrastructure, the college also has an Anti Ragging cell, a writing centre, computer centre, clubs and counseling facilities. Notable alumni include Indian actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu and IPS officer G Thilakavathi.
